Japan to stop exporting ‘buns’ for sale to South Korea

Japan will stop selling bacon for sale in South Korea and South Korea will stop importing bacon from Japan, as part of a joint effort to fight rising imports of the meat.

A joint statement by the two Koreas said they will ban the export of pork and beef, but allow the import of pork products to South Korean consumers, including pork belly, bacon and other bacon products, from 2019.

It said it will not import any meat products from Japan and South Korean farmers will have to increase their production capacity to meet the increased demand.
