Here’s what you need to know about making your own bun.
Ingredients Bun Ingredients 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted and cooled to room temperature, plus more for brushing Bun Ingredients 1 tablespoon maple syrup 1/2 cup sugar 3 tablespoons flour 2 tablespoons baking powder 1/4 teaspoon salt 3/4 cup water 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 2 large eggs 1/8 teaspoon vanilla bean paste 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional) 1/3 cup milk Directions Place the butter and maple syrup in a large bowl.
Add the sugar and flour and whisk until just combined.
Add baking powder, salt, and vanilla extract.
Add water, milk, and flour mixture, and whisk well until a dough forms.
Add eggs and vanilla and mix until incorporated.
Shape dough into balls, wrap, and refrigerate for up to 1 day.
Bake in a preheated 400-degree oven at 350 degrees for 20 minutes, until golden brown.
Remove from oven and let cool.
When you are ready to use your own, peel the skin off the bun, trim off any excess, and cut into 12 equal pieces.
Notes If you are using fresh, uncooked flour, it is best to use it for this recipe, which will allow for a higher level of sweetness and texture.
